“All pirate stories start here. Step aside Jack Sparrow, Long John Silver has entered the school.
We will create with your pupils this tale of the high sea with it’s triple crossing pirates, black spots, treasure map with an x in an unforgettable day of adventures.“
The play is performed by our Splats narrator with four classes. The shows are created with physical theatre, movement, circus, dance and scripted character acting. The Splats director brings props, pieces of costume and music/sound effects. We perform 30 minutes before the end of the school day for family, friends and pupils.
Make a Play day
A Splats Make a Play day is designed to involve a large amount of students in a full play production in a day. Pupils improve confidence, teamwork, speaking & listening & all are given opportunity to perform on stage in a relaxed & fun environment.
How it works
A Make a Play day is split into 4 scenes with a max class size of 35, so 140 pupils can take part. If you have small groups you can make 2 groups and learn two scenes each. Each group takes turn to learn their scene and when not with the splats teacher they make props and scenery for the play.
Usually you can fit assembly and three lessons in the morning and one more lesson and the show in the afternoon. These lessons are from 45 minutes to an hour and about 30 minutes for the show.
At the end of the day all the classes come together to perform the show. The splats teacher acts as narrator which helps to guide the play along and of course acts as a cue for the pupils. We very much recommend inviting parents and any classes not taking part to watch the show as of course it works best with an audience!

It was very impressive how the pupils understood and were able to perform a Shakespeare comedy so proficiently in such a short space of time. Many thanks to Harry for his brilliant leadership throughout the day and to all the parents who came to be the audience for the show. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Dear Staff at Splats, I am writing to thank you for our wonderful workshop sessions last week during our Shakespeare week. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and performance and it was wonderful to see so many children coming out of their shells and fully embracing the drama. Both adults (staff and parents) and children all commented on how much they enjoyed the two days spent with Johannas (apologies if I have spelt this incorrectly!) Thank you once again Many thanks
Just a quick email on behalf of the whole school to thank Mark and your company for a fantastic day last Wednesday at Burnham Market Primary School. Mark led the school in a performance of the Wind in the Willows and the children got so much out of the day, as well as the staff. I took a club in the library the following lunch time and some of the children were choosing books and then performing the story with freeze frames!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for a fantastic day!! The children gained so much from the experience while having so much fun at the same time! It waswonderfull to see the childrens’ confidence grow as they took on the various roles. I think we may have discovered some budding thespians! Everyone who watched the show had a brilliant time too. Nick was excellent, holding it all together and inspiring the children with his enthusiasm. I hope he had as much fun as we did!
