It's Impossible to Know - who are we communicating with

Costume, Music, Movement, Masks, Circus and Comedy all combine to help the pupils explore the issues around E- Safety in a fun, memorable and fascinating way. The participating pupils and all the audience are actively involved in the presentation as they answer the questions, offer advice and learn together.

Organisation

We can teach up to 4 groups in a day. The pupils perform the show with the splats teacher who acts as the game show host. This helps cement the whole show together and of course provides a cue for the pupils. The Splats director brings props, pieces of costume and music/sound effect

Performance

The workshops are active, fun and a real challenge for all, created with physical theatre, movement, circus, dance and scripted character acting. As we learn the show and perform it in just one day, pupils are up on stage before they have any time to think about nerves. This gives all pupils an opportunity to shine in a very relaxed environment.

The E- Safety Game Show includes:

  • MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS
“Because remember if you don’t somebody else will”
  • IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW
“People you don’t know are strangers. They are not always who they say.”
  • DADDY COOL
    “Stay Cool – Breathe . . . .and again . . and again ;0)
  • WHAT COULD POSSIBLE GO WRONG!
“Making things up, Research and Trust”
  • BRAIN INFORMATION FILM
“We are all different people who enjoy different things, and we must look after each other!”

Key Topics and Issues covered
Suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2

Messaging and Safety
How do we deal with unwanted messages. Always stay alert.
Do not to give away personal details as we don’t know who might end up seeing them. It might be someone we don’t trust.
If you are ever on a game that allows you to chat to someone, you never know who that person really is.
“People you don’t know are strangers.
They are not always who they say they are.”

Feelings and Bullying
It’s easier to be mean online because you don’t truly know what the other person is thinking or feeling?
You might think twice about being mean if you did know and online messages are often seen by lots of other people.
Put yourself in their shoes
How would I feel?
Is this a kind message?
Would I be happy for my teacher to read it?

Ask for Help
Any problems or issues, you must tell an adult you trust. They should always know what you are doing online.
Everyone can get it wrong sometimes. They will find a way to help you.
If someone is mean to you and you are upset by things talk to a friend, teacher, family.
“We are all different people who enjoy different things,
and we must look after each other!”

SCRIPT and Teachers notes Notes for Teachers

The show is designed in true game show style to be entertaining, engaging and larger than life. Its aim is to make the messages stick in the participants’ and audiences’ memories and to get the serious issues across in a fun and informative way. We welcome feedback, ideas and resources you think are relevant as it is of course a continually developing show.

The organisation of the day

The day will be run by the Splats teacher who will act as the host. Each group will take it in turns to learn a scene. The pupils act as both the audience and participants and each group when it is their turn will be actually involved in the scene. The show is more teacher-led than our usual shows as there is a lot of content that needs to be fairly exact and delivered clearly due to the important nature of the subject but whenever possible we will give away the narration to pupils but this will depend on time and group. At the end of the day all groups come into the hall together to perform the show in front of themselves and the invited audience.
