[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Welcome to the Team Robot and the Ancient Art of Disco Dancing teaching notes and follow up ideas.
These notes provide a summary of each classes role in the day and provides ideas and topics for further development after the day.
It also contains interactive links to articles, games, pictures and videos.
Please also see:
Script for full instructions for making tasks and mask templates and our Team Robot training pack which has activity sheets for pupils.
Structure of day
The day begins with an assembly for all the participating students. Each class then learn a scene each with our teacher. Whilst not with the Splats teacher they make props for the show. This is detailed in the script. Then the pupils all return for the show at the end of the day. They can act as their own audience but please do invite any classes not participating and parents and staff – the more the merrier.
Show Aims
The show aims to represent coding and computer science using very visual (and fun) methods. This can be as simple or as complicated as you wish as the pupils get to invent their own code and techniques and this can be adapted to age and ability level.
What starts as a very simple left, right instruction to move a robot can build to a more complex program where the hand jives, wigs, hats, spinning plates can all mean different things. This can be as simple or sophisticated as the children want.

Codes
Next in our show we talk about codes and invent our own codes.
A computer program is written in code – here are some ideas for learning more about types of code.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][ult_ihover thumb_shape=”circle” thumb_height_width=”250″ gutter_width=”30″ align=”center”][ult_ihover_item title=”Types of computer code” thumb_img=”8213″ hover_effect=”effect12″ effect_direction=”right_to_left” effect_scale=”scale_up” effect_top_bottom=”top_to_bottom” effect_left_right=”left_to_right” block_click=”link” block_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fsplatsentertainment.com%2Ftypes-of-code%2F|title:Types%20of%20Code|” title_font_color=”#ffffff” desc_font_color=”#bbbbbb” info_color_bg=”rgba(0,0,0,0.75)” thumbnail_border_styling=”solid” block_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.2)” block_border_size=”20″ spacer_border=”solid” spacer_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.75)” spacer_width=”100″ spacer_border_width=”1″ title_font_size=”22″ title_font_line_height=”28″ desc_font_size=”12″ desc_font_line_height=”18″]Find out more about computer code.[/ult_ihover_item][/ult_ihover][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Activity ideas for follow up activities
In our groups we invented our our own codes
CAN YOU?
Demonstrate your code to the rest of the class.
Can you explain how it works.
Can your class mates explain how the code works.
These were the tasks you had to complete.
Can you demonstrate how these work.
Can you teach another group your code.
Can you write this code down.
Using words
Using pictures or symbols[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
Computer Languages
In our show we made up our own languages to communicate to our robots.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][ult_ihover thumb_shape=”circle” thumb_height_width=”250″ gutter_width=”30″ align=”center”][ult_ihover_item title=”Computer Languages” thumb_img=”8217″ hover_effect=”effect6″ effect_direction=”right_to_left” effect_scale=”scale_up” effect_top_bottom=”top_to_bottom” effect_left_right=”left_to_right” block_click=”link” block_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fsplatsentertainment.com%2Fcoding-languages%2F|title:Coding%20Languages|” title_font_color=”#ffffff” desc_font_color=”#bbbbbb” info_color_bg=”rgba(0,0,0,0.75)” thumbnail_border_styling=”solid” block_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.2)” block_border_size=”20″ spacer_border=”solid” spacer_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.75)” spacer_width=”100″ spacer_border_width=”1″ title_font_size=”22″ title_font_line_height=”28″ desc_font_size=”12″ desc_font_line_height=”18″]Find out more about computer languages.[/ult_ihover_item][/ult_ihover][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
Algorithms
An Algorithm is a set of instructions to complete a task.
We learnt the Hokey Cokey.
Activity ideas for follow up activities
Can you write down instructions for any other algorithm. Then can you mix them up into pieces and swap with a partner and put them into order.
Act out by miming your task.
Did you make any mistakes?
If you did can you rewrite your algorithm.
Algorithm mix up
Type up your Algorithm into stages.
Put them all onto one page and print them.
Can you swap with another group and they will see if they can put the algorithms together.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][ult_ihover thumb_shape=”circle” thumb_height_width=”250″ gutter_width=”30″ align=”center”][ult_ihover_item title=”Algorithms” thumb_img=”8225″ hover_effect=”effect12″ effect_direction=”right_to_left” effect_scale=”scale_up” effect_top_bottom=”top_to_bottom” effect_left_right=”left_to_right” block_click=”link” block_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fsplatsentertainment.com%2Falgorithms%2F|title:Algorithms|target:%20_blank” title_font_color=”#ffffff” desc_font_color=”#bbbbbb” info_color_bg=”rgba(0,0,0,0.75)” thumbnail_border_styling=”solid” block_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.2)” block_border_size=”20″ spacer_border=”solid” spacer_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.75)” spacer_width=”100″ spacer_border_width=”1″ title_font_size=”22″ title_font_line_height=”28″ desc_font_size=”12″ desc_font_line_height=”18″]Find out more about Algorithms[/ult_ihover_item][/ult_ihover][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]
Computer Bugs and Viruses
Next in the story the Meanies invade and they act as a virus in the codes the pupils have designed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][ult_ihover thumb_shape=”circle” thumb_height_width=”250″ gutter_width=”30″ align=”center”][ult_ihover_item title=”Computer Bugs and Viruses” thumb_img=”8229″ hover_effect=”effect17″ effect_direction=”right_to_left” effect_scale=”scale_up” effect_top_bottom=”top_to_bottom” effect_left_right=”left_to_right” block_click=”link” block_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fsplatsentertainment.com%2Fcomputer-bugs-and-viruses%2F|title:Computer%20bugs%20and%20viruses|target:%20_blank” title_font_color=”#ffffff” desc_font_color=”#bbbbbb” info_color_bg=”rgba(0,0,0,0.75)” thumbnail_border_styling=”solid” block_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.2)” block_border_size=”20″ spacer_border=”solid” spacer_border_color=”rgba(255,255,255,0.75)” spacer_width=”100″ spacer_border_width=”1″ title_font_size=”22″ title_font_line_height=”28″ desc_font_size=”12″ desc_font_line_height=”18″]Find out more about computer viruses.[/ult_ihover_item][/ult_ihover][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]

Safety
The Meanies send a message to download their game.
What should you do if you receive a message from someone you don’t know?
Topics
Virus
How can you get a virus in your computer?
Code mix up
Write three different ways a virus could work. e.g. instead of moving the left foot it made me shake my left hand?
